LAND OF THE OWLS

When it comes to Long-eared owls Serbia really is a special place. Here thousands can bee seen congregating together in trees and breeding in large numbers in parks and rural towns. Having travelled to Serbia on multiple occasions I worked with local ornithologists in surveying the owls, photographing them both in winter and in the breeding season, getting unique access to this secretive species. In one small park alone there were upwards of 500 nests! Historically the owls were seen as a bad omen, however hard work by local groups and helped to educate and encourage locals to be proud of their owls. School children are spoken to and given lessons about what to do if they find young owls on the ground, helping to give these wonderful birds a better chance than ever to thrive!

All images were shot alongside certified scientists allowing for nest access and images to be made.
